An e-newsletter can have many different formats, depending on your goals. E-newsletters are sent to subscribers regularly (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) via email.
Many simply contain links to popular content on the company's website. Others have special content reserved for subscribers only.
They tend to be more personalised, so the reader feels like they're a part of a special group. Subscriber-only content in the newsletter is great for creating this atmosphere.

A blog resides on a website. It's generally about a specific topic and is usually open to everyone (although sometimes you pay a fee to access subscriber-only content).
The biggest difference between an e-newsletter and a blog is that users have made a conscious decision to join your mailing list to receive your newsletter.
So they are more likely to be loyal users and are more likely to buy or recommend your services.
The best way to understand the difference between e-newsletters and blogs, editorials, and newspaper articles is to subscribe to a few different e-newsletters. You could get a new email account and use this to sign up.
