For me, facing tragedy is greatly helped by prayer and regrouping, seeking heavenly direction as to where to go next and what best to do. And I find God always comes through with positive reinforcement of loving help and strength.

My son being diagnosed with schizophrenia in his second semester at Johns Hopkins devastated my family. We lost everything, simultaneously learned what is important, and at the same time have been propelled to find avenues to help others. My daughter is attending medical school, and I am finding my voice in freelance writing to change my life and others with me.

When I had my near tragedy I was thankful to be able to come out on the bright side. So even near tragedy can be devastating if you let it take over your mindset as in "is it going to happen again" Living in that fear is a tragedy. Life then really does not go on at a normal rate. I am happy about the outcome with my near tragedy and encourage others to look forward to the new instead of back to the fear and depression.

I just signed up for The Barefoot Writer. Watching this really hits me since I’m going through tragedy right now. My husband of 40 years just filed for divorce a week ago. Now I need to do something with my life!
